Principal's Message

Dear Honey Hollow Parents and Guardians,

Welcome back to Honey Hollow Elementary for the 2016-2017 school year.  I hope all of you have had a fantastic and relaxing summer break.  We are excited to begin another wonderful and rewarding school year.  We strive to work with our community to help ensure our school is a safe, nurturing, and challenging environment for our children, our scholars, to define their character, develop perseverance, and demonstrate growth in their attainment of being college and career ready by the time they graduate from high school. With your support, we will have another fantastic school year.  Also, we are blessed to have an assistant principal, Dr. Denise LaRue.  She will support both Sugar Hill and Honey Hollow Elementary Schools this school year. 

Regular attendance is important for academic success.  School begins promptly at 8:30 a.m. and dismisses at 2:57 p.m. (Monday-Tuesday, Thursday-Friday).  Every Wednesday for the entire school year will be a FLEX Day and dismissal will be 12:50 p.m.  Transitional Kindergarten (TK) students will be dismissed at 12:10 p.m.   The gates will be locked promptly at 8:30 and opened again at dismissal.  Parents/guardians, all visitors must report to the office prior to visiting or volunteering an area on the campus.  

We have high expectations for our scholars.  All scholars are expected to recite, practice, and embrace our school pledge – Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe, and Be Kind.  We will model and practice these expectations daily.  Again, it is extremely important that all students are here on time and are ‘Ready to Learn.’ 

Research shows that eating a healthy nutritional breakfast improves mental performance and concentration during morning activities.  Breakfast is served from 8:00 – 8:30 a.m. If you want your child to eat a healthy breakfast at school, it is vital that you bring your child during these times because we will not have 2nd Chance Breakfast.  Please make sure your child is here promptly at 8 to ensure they have enough time to eat a healthy breakfast. 

Parents and guardians, your support and participation greatly improves the academic and social success of our scholars.  Please consider supporting either: Parent Teacher Association (PTA), English Language Advisory Council (ELAC), School Site Council (SSC), or African-American Parent Advisory Council (AAPAC).    The parent groups meet monthly usually for about an hour or so.   You can also volunteer some time in your child’s classroom.  An hour a week makes a tremendous difference in the enrichment and support of your child’s growth.  If you are interested in supporting our school, your school, please sign up in the office. 

We have a couple of upcoming important events: Back to School Night is Thursday, August 18, 2016 from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m.  All parents who are interested in volunteering must attend a  Volunteer Orientation training/session.  The first sessions will be held on Monday, August 22, at 9:30 a.m. with another session at 2:00 p.m. in the multi-purpose room (MPR).  More sessions will be scheduled, as needed.
